hi there. i am new to this site. i joined a while ago but just never posted. i have a 89 lx with a 327 srtoker with a Vortech V1 making 11lbs. i made 513rwhp and 498rwtq. my best run to date is a 11.07 @ 129mph with a TKO600 5speed, 3.73's and 28" slicks. my clutch is starting to slip and i need to change it. i have been debating on going auto for a while and now since the tranny is going to be coming out anyways i am seriously considering doing the swap. so here it goes. forgive me for some of the questions if they are posted elsewhere i am copying this from another post i made.


so i am at the point where i need to replace my clutch. it is getting bad. it really only slips durring shifts but i know it is on its way out. so since i have to do the clutch anyways i am just going to go auto. that may mean the car will be down for the rest of the year but i have made up my mind and that is the way i am going. so here are a few questions i have

1. can i use the same computer w/ the PMS or do i have to change it?
2. What does manual valve body mean in autos?
3. What rpm stall converter chould i use and what flex plate?
4. will the harmonic ballancer i have work or will i need the get the engine reballanced?
5. do i need a trans break or will power breaking and using my line lock be ok?
6. Will my 3.73 gears be ok or do i need to go lower?
7. Finally, which tranny should i go with and will my drive shaft work or will i need a new one.http://hpmustangs.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbs_up.gif


i need to rebuild the tranny in my Coupe so i will use the TKO600 in that and the scattershield and drive shaft if i need to so this is a good reason to change the tranny now. any advice will be greatly appreciated

1)keep the computer
2)Manual VB means the VB must be shifted manualy, with the lever in the car, for all gears, up and down....no AUTO funtion any more. Basicaly a manual 4 speed with the torque converter instead of clutch.
3) 3500 non lock would be nice, the Crank builder makes the balance for both flex and balancer....ask them.
4) flex needs to be proper balance 164tooth
5)TB - your call see what happens or where the budget is.
6) keep the gears for now
7) 4R70W with AOD tailhousing, custom driveshaft

thanks for the answers. i have been looking into going C4. what is the bennifit going with the 4R70W?
