For heads, I've been talking to a place called CGM Motorsports. they have an Aluminum head fully assembled for $650. they are 210cc heads. I know a lot of people believe in going with AFR or Trick Flow, but i'm goign to give these heads a shot. they are the same casting as RHS. they are untouched so they can be ported and polished, and at .500" lift they flow 234 intake side VS 197 on stock Ford heads. they have 2.02int and 1.60exh valves. just throwing that out there. I'm going to go with them for my 351 to see how they do. it's $650, so it's affordable, they're aluminum and CGM says they will do well, and even gave me phone numbers to customers running their heads for me to get feedback from when i asked.

Hey all of my stangs i have owned have been auto. && before i built my AOD's I noticed a few things that really wakeup the autos.. Now I am not sure all what you have on your 89' lx but besides the 2 obvious exhaust and cold air...
- 4.10 Gears had a buddy that threw 3.73's on an AOD and yeah it helped but the 4.10's really wake it up.
- 3" race crank pulley - Not like a BBK pulley kit... You want to make sure its a 3". Its barley big enough so you can bolt it on. Now you will have to run the 93' Cobra water pump pulley and an overdrive alternator pulley.( I know steeda sells them they are like 1 1/2 or 2") The crank pulley is so small you need to make sure to run these other pulleys so the car can cool and charge properly. But i had no problems at all with this pulley setup and the car ran like a bat out of hell!! It really is amazing how fast your tach climbs after your put that 3" pulley on the car. Besides gears buying this pulley setup is the best bang for your buck!!
-130 Amp alternator & an Electric fan ( Both from a 95 GT ) When you install the alternator from a 95' GT you need to buy the alternator plug for a 95' Gt. They are like $2
-Aluminum Driveshaft
-Performance Automatic Shift Kit.. I have never ran them in my cars because i just build the whole tranny but i have installed them in a few customers cars and they are a quick easy instal and with the parts i listed above and this shift kit you will be chirping gears hauling ass down the street!!
Hope this helped and good luck with your race car and your 89' hatch

lol wow i thought you said Cheap HP :-o
When i think of cheap HP I am thinking gear & an aluminum driveshaft would be the most expensive on the list lol
If you pick up that performance Automatic shift kit (or you could just get the full manual valve body w/electric O/D and Trans brake :-D:-D ) & a good trq converter you should be good to go. The boys at PTC make some great coverters!! I have ran them in all my daily driven stangs that ran from 10.90's to 9.40's Mod motor & pushrod setups ..... The best part about them is the price. www.ptcrace.com (http://www.ptcrace.com)

I find the BE controls.com kit be a better option for "off the shelf" shift kits.
you should think about getting a converter
the gt40style intake will work better with that combo
