View Full Version : Idle issues help please!!

Don't know wtf is going on...

Things done in past couple days...

Three days ago
-Changed oil and oil filter ran fine after


Two days ago
-Bought new battery and installed it
when first started stalled but then started up like nothing happened...

Later that day car started and ran fine... then after shutting car off and hangin out for a while started car was surging down to like 500 rpms and volts were down real low... (got home)

Disconected battery and clead mass air sensor, let car sit for the whole day until today (with battery disconnected) re attached battery started car and let it idle... (usually when first started car would idle at about 1200-1300) now it idles at approx. 1000 at first start then drops down to 550-700 and surges and shakes... car stalled out once...

I let the car idle for about 15min to let the computer relearn everything...

Went for a drive seemed fine... got to the gas station put in 89octane and a bottle of fuel injector cleaner... ran decent got to my second destination and as i slowed for the red light the car stalls.. started up parked went and got the stuff i needed at the store... went to leave started up idled real rough backed up from R to N to D car almost died... drove home put car in Park and it died..

Now i'm here wondering wtf is going on and what i should do...

I left the battery disconnected for a day hoping for it to reset the computer.. let it idle and re learn everything...

Thank you for reading and do you have any advice on what i should do?

How much are code readers and where could i pick one up?

anything electrical like that rule of thumb is to go thru and check all your connections.....especially the grounds....are the terminals clean on the cables??...make sure your grounds are in good shape and tight...also make sure the engine is grounded.....if they all look ok then i would start looking at other stuff...but the car was fine till you disturbed to connections at the battery...i think thats where you problem lies.

what was the reason for the new battery? Was it tested to see if it was bad? It might have been the cables if it wasnt.

No real reason just wanted a red top and somebody gave me $30 for a battery that i didnt even know how old it was... lol

This is my update:



Yesterday I purchased new battery cable Negative and Positive and CRC (fuel injected air system cleaner)

First i changed the battery cables, start car starts immediatley and goes to 1000 rpms then drops a little car was not shaking like before so i go for a drive and come home after i hit operating temperature...

Since it was recomended by CRC to clean with thier product while car was at operating temp thats exactly what i did, cleaned IAC and TB


waited a while....

Go to start car nothing cranks but does not start, loudest ive ever heard it trying to crank... thought maybe something was wrong check under hood.. nothing try again... cranks but doesnt turn over... let sit 5 min go to start again give gas starts but studders real bad, held car at 1500 rpms approx 30-40sec and let off throttle slowly idled right around 900rpms go for a drive seems to be ok...

got home shut off car, and let sit a min start again and it takes a little bit to turn over but once started seems like its idling ok now...



Today car started OK not great but it turned over first shot... Idled a little rough then smoothed out, i'm at school now so hopefully when i go to leave things will go even smoother...
