Alright guys I'am thinking of going to auto on my 87 TBird. It will have a 351 in it. The car has a V6 with an AOD in it but I am not sure if it will bolt up the windsor. That is one of the dilemmas. The other is if I dont go stick, what tranny should I use, the C4 or the AOD? I can get a working C4 for $100. The AOD is in my car but I dont know yet if it will bolt up but I have another lead on a V8 aod. It will be my street/strip car with 3.73's and maybe a 100 shot. It would be nice to have OD so I can take it on the highway but from what I have been reading the C4 is little cheaper than the AOD to build. Are the splines different of that of a T5? I have a yoke that I kept that came out of an AOD so that is taken care of but I dont know what the scoop is for the C4. These auto's are new to me and I have always liked manual. I don't know if I need a custom driveshaft either if I use the C4. Remember this is a TBird and it is longer than the Mustang so I assume it would. I dont want to spend tons of money on the tranny cause it wont have tons of HP going through it yet but I do want it somewhat reliable if possible.

Thanks, James

You really can't go wrong either way. The AOD is a little bigger, bulkier, and heavier, but it has OD. The C4 is lighter and cheaper to build. If you are not making a lot of power, either will hold find. The driveshaft should be the same for both the aod and the c4...

I thought the AOD had different splines than the T5? Who would you recommend for rebuild kits for both? I heard the AOD's had rear oiling issues. Does the V6 have the same bolt pattern? I would like the OD for highway use and was leaning towards the AOD but I always thought for stock or mild buildups the AOD couldn't handle it like the C4 can.

Look at the Motorsport part # for the driveshaft...it's for aod/t5/c4. Only the tremec is different, and they usually come with the yolk to replace it.
