Are you bulding a tranny that you already have? If so you should look into kits from either Lentech or Performance Automatic which have heavy duty bands/clutches and different servos, plus you should look into a one piece input shaft and a good stall converter. Shift kits are ok, but the best thing to do is to replace your valve body with a nice Lentech piece.

so i should pick up a kit to rebuild my current trans (90,700) miles?
or should i buy a trans like a lentech street/strip?
I want to do this right the first time so i don't have to do it again... if it takes spending a lil money now id rather do that then have to do it again... i'm willing to spend up to 2k but would much rather do it around 1,000....
thanks for your help eric

To have an AOD built and hold some nice power your looking at atleast $1500.

If you have the money buy a Lentech tranny that's already done up. They will hold whatever you can throw out it and come with a warranty to boot.

Actually, it is very possible. Back a few years ago, I bought an already stock rebuilt AOD for $300...added a LenTech Street Terminator Lock-Up (now known as the Strip Terminator Lock-Up) valve body for $500. Then I finally bought a PI Stallion for $700 and it was in the car for roughly 300 passes, 100 of which were deep into the 10's. In fact, the tranny outlasted 3 engines, 4 superchargers, and 2 rears...lol...It only died when I had a front U-Joint failure and when the shaft busted loose, it broke the transmission case in half...
My present AOD tranny was bought, already rebuilt, with a 2400 FRPP Non Lock-Up converter for $300. I have an Edge Racing lock-up converter on the way ($500), and got a LenTech Street Terminator valve body for the price of a case of beer. By the time I remove and sell the FRPP (aka B&M) converter, I'll have about $700 invested into a sweet AOD setup ...This one too, will handle whatever I throw at it...especially since I'm only a H/C/I car for now...
There's always a sweet deal out there...ya just need to find them.

to alot of people 1500 isnt budget. i have 1800 in mine.

I'd agree with that, but when people are paying $1200 or so for stock rebuilds that have nothing special at all done to them, as well as stock converters...$1500 or even $1800 is budget IMO...

Well i will be doing my trans work probably sometime during the summer, so i will report back then for a lil more input...
my budget for the transwork has to be under 2k but obviously the cheaper the better... because whatever i dont spend on the trans goes towards perfomance...

Bob, Do you prefer lockup or non-lockup AOD

Jay, I must admit after owning both, I personally like the lock-up converters. I just got my new EdgeRacing converter today and it's a lockup version, so I'll have a legitimate back to back comparison on the same car, but it'll be nice to regain a little lost mileage without losing any power as a downside...
When I originally installed the non lockup in this car, my mileage plummeted downward...but IMO, the power increase didn't outweigh it...This 2400 stall that I'm removing would be fine in a stock, or near stock setup...
