Hey guys, I was referred to this site by a buddy of mine who says you guys are the best. I am planning on going with a FB Performance 4r70W with the following options

HI STALL TORQUE CONVERTERS STALL RANGE
10"...... Ford…(single disc)....... Full Race...... 2400 - 6000.

ACCESSORIES
-RC2…..Auto-reset Relay controller.(OD & Lockup in 3rd).
-FL…... Fluid Cooler Kit 26K-gvw w/stl braided lines & #6 fittings.
-YK..…. H.D. Spicer adapter Yoke...(large OD)..

Let me tell you a little about the car because that is gonig to play a part in some of the questions that I ask. Bear in mind I know NOTHING about automatic transmissions.

KB 2.6L at 20psi of boost
Killer Chiller

Currently the car makes 704RWHP on 20psi of boost and C16 gas. Unfortunately the car also does weigh 3812lbs without driver and 4052 with me in it. I do have plans to cut over 300lbs out of the car this winter so its weight for the next season will be 3512lbs without me.

On the street tune, things are dialed back some, with 15psi and 93 octane the car made 630RWHP

Torque Converter
What should I be looking at here. I want something thats going to hold up to the power and weight of the car. I just went through my 3rd clutch in 7000 miles and im done. I want to start enjoying the car again. With the twin screw blower peak torque is instant so i think I can get away with a lower stall. Is my thinking correct?

I was recommended a 10" single disc full race converter from Pro Torque with about a 3000-3300 stall. Does this seem good?

Lockup or Non Lockup
FB states with the lockup im gonig to be good for 1100hp. I did a little research here and know that a lockup has a 2 piece input shaft and a non lockup has a single piece. In my mind single piece is stronger but I was also told that without the lockup you wont want to ever drive this thing on the street. The car is NOT a DD but does see plenty of street time. Id say 60/40 between street and track respectively.

Transmission Cooler

Now since I do not have a Heat exchanger for the blower because I use the Killer chiller, I was thinking of some massive Transmission cooler to go up front. Most of what I see around are these tiny little ones that don't look liek they do jack squat. Am I overthinking this here? Cooler is always better. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I was looking for something with a Fan and temp controller

If you guys need any more information please ask. I can also scan dyno sheets, cam spec cards, anything you need. I appreciate all the help in advance

I think that converter design would be ideal, yes.

The AOD has 2pc input shaft - wrong trans.
As far as I know there is no TRUE one peice for the AODE/4R so you are still okay. DOn't worry about this option. You are still okay with the LU system especially if you are going to be street. I can explain more if you like, but the stickies talk about it already.

As big as you can get stacked plate style cooler is desired, that is the info to live by.

Thanks Dan

I was told the non lockup input shaft is a welded shaft to make it one piece. I guess that technically its not a true one piece like you said but i was told it would be stronger, especially in a full race car, which my car is not. I think ive settled on the lockup as the way to go

I weld the input shaft as you mention ONLY after the customer breaks it...never happen yet.

Don't fear the stall. The 4r70w's have lockup but not like the aod which uses 2 input shafts. The 4r70w has one large shaft with a tip on the end for the converter seal. I have built hundreds of 4r70w converters for similar setups and made them stall over 3500 and every time.
Having lockup to make it efficient means you use the converter to get out of the hole.
