Adjustable vaccum advance Quest?

I can't seem to find a straight answer on this. I have a adjustable vaccum advance that I can adjust with a allen wrench which way do I need to turn to get the most performance? How far do I turn it i've read when you drive it under a load it pings back it off, but I 'm not sure which way to turn thanks for the help.

screw the allen wrench all the way in and suck on the pipe with a mighty vac, now check the timing, then screw it all the way out and do the same, i recommend that you feed the can with manifold vacuum, not timed vacuum.
