why wont fl1 filter work?

ok i have an 89 lx convertible aod, i just finished putting the explorer motor in. when i went to put the "FL-1" oil filter on, it wouldn't fit. why? it was hitting the motor mount. before dropping the new motor in, i replaced the mounts, they looked the same as the old mounts, what could be different?
i had to use a cheap filter that is much smaller. the pn was 4671 any ideas on why the motor craft fl-1 wont fit?

Don't know why the FL-1 hits but the FL-300 is just a shorter FL-1 if you want a motorcraft.

The threaded insert in the block is different, you need to replace that, or use the explorer specific filter.
