I'm really wanting to get my fox painted (inexpensively). I hear mixed things bout Maaco. Anyone else in my area that does it? Trust me when I say "inexpensively". I don't have a few grand to drop into paint right now.

Paint & cheap do not go in the same sentence, Its all labor intensive and body shop labor rates are high. Maaco isnt a bad choice imo ONLY if you do the prep yourself. I have had 2 cars painted by my local maaco in the past, both came out decent because i prepped the cars. My one mustang i had done by them was 320 out the door but i was about 1000-1200 into it when all said and done.

Paint only looks as good as the prep work. I have seen some paint work from reputable bodyshops that looked like crap due to poor prep work.

I have also seen a $300 Maaco paint job that looked like you could fall and drown in the paint, thats how deep and crystal clean it was. The owner of the car spend a crapload of time doing prep work.

Thanks Darin. I decided to grin and bear it some more. Maybe I'll just put a huge bandaid on my roof! LOL

Yes I'd roll in your Stang. I painted my own Mustang and I must say it looks pretty dam good. I only spent $300 including Paint,Primer, and the Bondo I had to use. http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii304/817bigtex/01010801150301030720080609ec1226586.jpg

The only way to save $$$ is to try to do the most of the work yourself. I worked at a body shop just long enough to learn the basics and I prepped my own car and had a buddy that paints spray it. It worked out good for me and I didnt have much into. On another car I did all the prep work and sprayed it. It was my first time spraying and yes I made a couple of mistakes that I learned from but for my first job I was really happy with it. I probably had around 300-400 into it as I all ready had a sander and borrowed a spray gun.

well.... after doin collision for 20 years, i can honestly say that these comments are correct. body and paint is much more then most folks believe it is, and most reputable shops WANT to do a nice job on your car because their reputation is at stake, but you also get what you pay for . i can paint a car for 500 bucks that i will spend about 3 hours getting ready, or i can paint a car for 3 grand that i will spend 3 weeks getting ready. the choice is up to the owner. for 3 grand you will get what you pay for. if the paint is real bad and the car needs to be stripped you may spend more then that to get it right. it all depends on how good you want it to look, how bad things are underneath that old paint and how long you are gonna keep it. theres no sense in putting a million dollars into a car your not gonna keep because honestly you might not get it back out of the car in this economy , however, if this car is your baby and you expect to keep it for years to come, do your homework and put a nice job on the car. you will be glad you did :-) feel free to email or message me if you want to brenda. thanks :-)

i would be willing to look over your car thoroughly for you at no cost to you whatsoever and give you a 20 year professional opinion and overview of what needs to be done to your car for your wants and expectations , whether i do the work or not is irrelevant. at least then you will know what your car needs and what you are in for in terms of real world costs to get it done. and i will not b/s ya to try to earn your business. i dont do things that way. ask eric, he'll tell ya , lol

I appreciate that very much but this thread was about the fox and I did get it painted. haha

Now.....I am thinking bout getting my cobra done (not sure time frame yet) but the body is real good on it, just paint chips and faded spots, well you know how black is.
