Hey guys, as you may well know I've been bitching about my cyl. #7 injector hangin' open. I finally replaced it yesterday and now I think my EGR may be clogged with a piece of gasket material. I didn't take the upper plenum all the way off but instead lifted it enough to get to the injectors. Some of the upper plenum gasket was stuck to the lower intake in the area of the EGR port. While scraping the gasket material off a piece flew off never to be seen again...I think it dropped off into the EGR port and is now clogging my EGR.
The car idles beautifully and free-revs with no problems. But, at about 1/4 throttle in 2nd,3rd, and OD, between 1200-2200rpm it will make popping sounds loud as hell...sounds like a back fire out of the intake. I want to see what you guys think...I have some gasket material lying around here somewhere so I'm gonna try pulling the EGR valve and making sure that the port and valve are clean and free of debris...either way...IT MUST be fixed by Saturday. I'll let you know what happens when I'm done...let me know what you guys think.
Thanks,
Don

What happens if you pull the vac line off of the EGR and plug it off?

I haven't tried that yet, I have the battery disconnected now and I will try that once I reconnect the batt. I pulled the EGR off and it was clogged like hell....I was able to clean it all out and it made no difference. I had an EGR from my old motor that was clean so I tried that and I think it made it worse. I think I may have to put the old injector back in because it's sequential fuel injection....replace one and you have to replace each one after that....from my experience-with 4.6's....I didn't think the 5.0 had sequential injection but I looked in my repair manual and according to that, it does.

Well, I tried plugging the vacuum line to the EGR and it did nothing for me...probably because when I went to unplug it(engine running) there was no vacuum present there. Why you may ask? Hell if I know. I pulled the vacuum line off the top of the fuel pressure regulator and plugged that...the backfiring is not as bad, but the car idles low and doesn't feel as strong as it should below 3000rpm...but when you hit about 3200 under full throttle, it's like a magical turbo spooling up...pins you to the seat. I WAS going to put the old injector back in, but it suspiciously disappeared, which really pisses me off. Time to make some phone calls for a matched set of fuckin injectors. I'm at my wits end...if anyone has anymore ideas, let me know...but I think I need to replace all the goddamn injectors now.

Fuck that EGR and it's lack of vacuum supply and fuck that cyl #7 injector....I found my old cyl. #7 injector lying in my trunk...on went new o-rings and a new plastic cap and I put that bitch back in. But, when I first pulled the fuel rail up, I noticed that the cyl. #6 o-ring(top) was pinched and the plastic cap was missing. So, I managed to dig out what was left of the plastic cap from the injector bung and I put a new o-ring and cap on that injector. As I was getting ready to bolt the rail back down, I noticed that the cyl. #8 injector was also missing the plastic cap....I put a new cap on it(but the old cap wasn't even in the bung  ) and put it all back together. After reconnecting the vacuum line for the fuel pressure regulator, I took it for a spin....It's safe to say that I think it has more power now than it has in a long time. The thing runs like a raped ape now....in first gear I hit about 3200rpm and the ass end kicked out...yeee-fuckin-haaaaa.
