View Full Version : going to the track for the first time with the auto and need tips

hate to sound like a noob but walk me throw this please burn out start in first and shift into second? was doing second gear dumps before with the 5 speed. also launching was leaven around 5k and side stepping before . can't do that any more so foot brake as high as i can ? convertor stalls around 3400 and flashes to 3900 on motor haven't checked on juice yet .sprays on a window 3 on 5900 off . shift point same as before or can i lower them cause the rev's won't drop as much ?thanks for any help

There are quite a few techniques...this is what I do. I pull into the water box in second gear and overdrive switched off. I do the burnout in second gear only. I then place the selector into 3rd as I pull into a pre stage position. As far as the launch, try footbraking it as high as the brakes will hold (2000-2200?) and launch from there. Also try launching from an idle just matting the gas. Your car will like one better than the other, but only the timeslips will tell.

I do the burnout starting in 1st then to 2nd....did it in 2nd with the 6 speed. been launching off the transbrake around 3500 and the converter flashes to 4500.....launched at 5500-6k with the 6 speed.

btw..best 60's EVER with the auto!
