Hello click click,
This is my first post so hello. Ok now down to business, lol. I have a 97 GT and the power it puts out is umm pretty bad so I'm thinking about swapping to a 96 - 98 cobra engine. My car has an AOD-e in it and when I do the swap I'd really like to keep it that way. I need some help with this and any and all insight would be appreciated. What parts would I need to get the AOD-e onto the engine? I googled it and this site was the only thing I found relevant to what I'm looking for. I saw someone named dan did it to a 96 cobra so I figured at least someone will know. Thanks for all the help.

Since the car is already and AOD-E equipped car you will need a new 8 bolt flexplate, which a new non-SFI one is like 60 bux through CJ pony parts...everything else as far I know bolts right up

sweet, I'm going to have my AOD-e rebuilt soon since I'm having issues with it shifting. How much HP can a stock AOD-e handle? Should I have it upgraded to handle more hp for the cobra engine. Thank you VM

yes indeed. it should hold the cobra power with no problem with a few select upgrades.

Maybe I'm all wet, but HOW did a 97 get an AODE?? I thought Aode's were done in 95~96?
If your going to have a 97?? tranny rebuilt, I have to believe most any reputable builder would update it to at least 98+, at which point it should hold a n/a 32v no problem.

because it isnt an aode. mustangs had aodes only in 94 and 95. I just went with the flow because everyone calls them that.

To chime in late.
We should clear this up and use correct terms so everyone is on the same page when questions come up.
Yes, your 97 has a 4R70W and it should bolt to the cobra motor just fine so long as the flexplate you use is correct for the converter you use.
