I was hoping you guys could help me select a size and brand/type of drag radials. This is going to be on the stock 10-holes on my LX, stock ride height. Front tires will still be stock sized 225/60R-15.

My hope is to be able to drive safely/slowly to the track which is about 10 miles away, and then drive back after I've finished abusing them. I don't want any tire rub, and I am keeping my quad kicker shocks.

If it helps/makes any difference, here is the car I'm putting drag radials on, in a tiny nutshell:

'89 Mustang LX Hatchback 5.0/AOD
3000-3200rpm stall Edge Lockup Converter
3.73:1 gears
Edelbrock Performer 5.0 Heads/Intake/70mm TB
24lb injectors/75mm MAF/Lasota SCT Chip
Crane 2031 Powermax Cam
MM SFCs/LCA. Ford Racing UCA.

Anyway, what size drag radials would you guys recommend, considering my combo and goals?

If the only goals are no rubbing and retaining the quad shocks and 10 hole wheels, just go with a 235/60/15.

275/50/15's will physically fit, but would more than likely rub something, and unless it's a skinny Nitto DR, it's honestly slightly too wide of a tire for a 7" rim.

Don't know if MT makes a 235/60 DR but I know BFG does, and I have used that exact size on one of my old LX hatchbacks without any issues whatsoever...it was an 11.80 nitrous bolt-on car FWIW.

I have run a set of the 235/60/15's and they hooked great until they start to ball up. A quick burn out cleans them up.

Good Luck

Just as a follow up, back in April when I started this thread, I ended up going with the BF Goodrich G Force Drag Radial in a 235/60-15.

My best pass so far this year is a 12.95 e.t. on a 1.77 60ft time.

Considering my car is a daily driver (literally) full weight street car, I was pretty happy with that.

Sadly, it's already time to replace the BF Goodrich's...they only lasted about 2 months before all the soft rubber/tread was gone, now they're just hard and bald.

I might try the ET Street Radial this time...

Wow, didn't last long. How many miles? I have Mickey ET Streets and was wondering how many miles I'll get on them too.

2 months on bfg's????How many burn outs did you do? Mine have 7 or 8 hard burn outs and passes on them and have yet to show signs of loss of life......Not to mention at least 500 street miles....those are not easy either.

FoxxyFiveO: I don't know exactly how many miles. My car is a grunt utilitarian everything. I drive it 7 days a week, to work, to wherever, grocery getter, grudge drag abuse, and bracket racing, all without breaking parts. My best guess? Maybe a couple thousand miles, maybe.

JFAB: I don't know what my 60 fts picked up, because I never got a timeslip with this car on regular street radials, because I never saw the point in doing that (just sit there and spin at the line and get killed). I average in the 1.8x but my best was a 1.77

squeak: I did a SHIT load of burnouts. On average 4 burnouts per race, I probably raced 12 times (both bracket and grudge), so lets say as a guesstimate almost 50 burnouts.

90sslx: Yeah, I already know that. I have ET Street Radials mounted now on a spare set of rims (didn't have a spare set with the BFG's) so just because I will not be driving on them all the time I'm sure they will last a long time.

Wow, just wow. I can tell you mine have 6 passes on them with nice burn outs each time, lots of street miles and are showing no major signs of wear. Pulls very consistent 1.7's on a sick motor.

4 burn outs per race? Not sure that is required...Any special reason for that?

I think you misunderstood me, or I wasn't clear enough, one or the other.

I meant 4 burnouts or more per race day, not an individual pass. That's because I would do time trials, eliminations, etc. and would do 1 burnout per pass, it's just I made 4 or more passes per race.

When I say I probably raced 12 times on those tires, what I meant was that I used them at 12 race-days, which I may have made 4-8 passes each day, plus daily street driving, etc.
