My husband has a 1999 V6 Mustang with a T5 transmission and the engine needs to be rebuilt. Most quotes we receive are around $1000 and I would rather take a different route than rebuild a V6 for a grand. I have an '89 Bronco with a 351W. Will this motor fit into the Mustang? If so, what would need to be changed to accommodate the new motor? Any help would be great. He doesn't know I'm willing to give him my truck engine so hopefully this would be a better route.;)

it would not be a direct swap. you would need a k-member,wiring harness,computer,351 fox oil pan, motor mounts, full exhaust system, you would be well over $1000

What's your husband done that you want to swap him for a 351?:(

do you have moter vehicle inspections down there?
i bet it would be pretty hard to get that to pass. most likley be impossible in this state.
just the swap parts illdrag mentioned are probably over a grand. tho i'd much rather have a 351 then a v6. i think it might be time to look into a new car IMO.

I think Georgia is pretty lax as far as emissions. It won't be happening here in my state. I only drive pre-70's cars so to hell with computers and fuel injection and smog laws! :jerk:

i just had my '76 through inspection yesterday
failed the first time. tuned it in the parking lot but it still failed the 2nd time. de-tuned the crap out of the carb again but 3rd time through they just wrote N/A for emissions
they talk about how bad the emission laws are in CA but here in DE they still hook all post-1967 cars up to the sniffer unless you get antique tags, like i did yesterday

Actually they don't hook cars up to the sniffer that are 1996 and newer. OBDll systems they just plug into the computer and read any codes. No more emissions testing.

What - they know what the emissions standards were for 1968 and later? I don't think so. Here in CA - which I believe is the toughest state on street driven vehicles - if your car is older then 30 years then you are ok usually. If your car is younger then that they check your car out with a white glove.

I'd look for a used sohc v8, they go pretty cheap, and ought to be laying around in wrecks, etc. With a little perseverance it could be made to bolt up. The problem is the t5 won't be the right pattern, you'd probably have to get a mod motor bell housing, maybe input shaft too. That could be more than it's worth.
I've gotta agree, the idea of dumping 1k into a 3.8 is stomach turning....:)

they had some kind of limits they compared me to. they just tested my HC and CO levels at idle
