I have a 89 302 out of a crown vic is it a roller or flat tappet it has the spider in the lifter valley like rollers have and the firing order is 15426378? What kind of heads do they usually have? And whats the largest lift cam can i go with before i have to worry about ptvc?

i thought all the 302's after '83 were roller motors but i could be wrong...

That engine is a roller engine. However it uses the standard 302 firing order and not the 5.0/351 firing order that the Mustang uses. You will need to switch the camshaft to a roller 5.0L HO/351 camshaft.

I believe the heads are the standard E7's. You will have to clay the cylinders to determine Piston to Valve clearance.

im positive the heads are the e6 , pistons are cast and the upper intake is a lot smaller the mustang 87-93 ho ,and good chance that the injectors are the grey ones 16lbs, bigG

not all the vehicles used a roller cam. i know a lot of trucks did not. it was a roller block, just no roller internals. if you have the spider you have a roller. the pistons will probably have no valve reliefs. so check piston-valve clearance.
