Hey guys,
I've been running a B&M pro ratchet shifter in a fox body... Drive, neutral, and park line up pretty well, but 1st and 2nd don't line up well enough to use. I wanting to go to a manual valve body this year, so I need to get these to line up.

What shifter have you guys been using for this application?
Does the AOD and the AODE have the same "throw"?
I assume the 4R70W and the AODE have the same "throw"?

When I say "throw", I'm talking about the distance the shifter moves the lever in each gear change.

Good question!!! Im subscribing to this shizzy, wonder if a stock 4r70w shifter would do the trick?

I'm sure it would work, but it won't look right in a fox body console.

Well, I have pro ratchet shifter with some sort of B&M shifter cable... I still have the stock shifter lever on the tranny for a 94 mustang. What I've done is cut a piece out from a lathe to fit the hole of the shift lever. I drilled it and tapped it to fit the shift cable.

From what I've read the shifter lever needs to be 2" from pivot point to pivot point. Mine actually measures 1&11/16". That's what my throw came up too short.

When I get time, I'm going to lengthen the shifter lever and drill a hole at 2".

B&M sells a shifter adapter that mates to the AOD/AODE/4R manual lever to get proper throw. However it should work with the stang lever anyway.

If you need to adjust the throw, you can modify the lever yourself as well...drill, weld, add, shorten..whatever you feel is the ideal spot. Unhook the cable from the lever and go through the detents and see if you can find a sweet spot that it appears the cable to hook to the lever...then modify.

AFAIK, the stang levers for AOD/E/4R are basicaly all close to 2" centers.

How about an early 4R T-bird shifter? They would look more at home in a fox.

I see where they sell a kit for an AOD(AOD req. 40496 inst. kit), not for an AODE or 4R70W. Will the AOD lever work in the AODE?

I am not completely sure if the length and all is the same, however if you fill the TV lever hole, I would think sure. No MLPS though.

I would find the sweet spot that you need on the lever you have and modify it....you might get by with just bending the lever or something.
