i want to go automatic, would like to get an aod so i can still drive on the free way still. i was wondering, what all can be done. i would like a reverse manual valve body with a trans brake, or at least a manual valve body with transbrake. is this possible, and what and where do i have to go to get this done. i have a aod lined up, just need to know what to do to it and where to get the parts. thanks in advance.
one more thing is there any computer oriented thing that i will need to do to put an aod in my car?

Welcome to the site :) You can get a manual valve body with a trans brake. The best place to get this is from Lentech (www.lentechautomatics.com).

like Eric said Lentech makes a valve body for it, so does Art Carr, are you going to be using a stock AOD or an already built one? Lentech, PA Performance both make built AOD's if your going to be building up your own stock one I suggest getting these parts, Hardened Lockup shaft, 6 Friction Direct Drive Drum from an AODE, Alto Clutches, A+ OD servo, kevlar OD band, and then your basic stuff like rebuild kit and such. You could also do the 2" OD band conversion from an AODE, Baumann sells a kit to do such a conversion, depening on your rear axle gears you could also go with the Wide Ratio Kit which changes the gear ratios in the transmission to that of an 4rw70 transmission, but that is only recommended for 3.55 or 3.73 gears.

thanks for the good info, i was planing on building one up. i have 3.73's so i guess i should do the wide ratio kit, but im unsure why?

well it lowers your ratios so you can get more of a lauch but your rpm's wil be a bit higher in the end because of the lower gears, its your choice, it usually runs about 600 for the kit or you can find a blown 4rw70 and get the parts from it.

Unsure why?
AOD have a 2.4 or so frist gear...with the 4r70w gearset you will have a 2.85 first gear. This will get you up and into your power band faster in a street car. I run the 4r70w gearset in my AOD in my 65....and I have 4.11s in the rear...its is quite a feet getting traction in first ;) but since my power band is 2800-7000 or so...its nice to get the car up to 3k really fast.
Stick shift cars often have a first gear higher (numberically) than 2.4 as well, so if you are up agaist a stick car with a driver that can drive it, even if you have more power and similr rear gear rations, most likely he will get the jump on you because of a gearing advantage.
Am I babbling on yet?

It's really no more expensive to build one than it is to buy say a tko. An AOD that is built right is going to just about last forever too.

I agree...properly built and setup, they can handle a lot.

looks good, I would change the valve body though and dont forget you still need a converter,
the valve body has been modded to be sorta like a trans go shift kit, 1=1 2=D 3/4=OD, which would mean there is no way to lock out OD.

That guys feedback doesn't look so hot. I would only buy from a well known, proven source personally.

Hey James welcome over here, even though im a little late....LOL
Glad you are looking at doing an AOD....You wont be dissapointed.... :D Like everyone else has said, do it right the 1st time. Lentech is definately the way to go. And I recommend PI for a converter....

Just go to a local trans supply house and ask for one. The Recon Hard Parts part number I have is AR76555D
Maybe that can help. You will also need a pressure plate / pistion for the AODE drum and the clutches/steels. The AODE is 34tooth while the stock AOD one is 31t? The pistion kit # is AR76565A and the pressure plate is a ford # E9SZ-7B066-A. I bought all my parts from http://www.axiom.com/atc/site/index.aspx
they have a supply house like 10mins away from me.
