Any good tips or procedures on how to bench bleed a new MC?

It's easiest if you have the little MC bleeding kit, which has a variety of plastic fittings and rubber hoses....

If not, the easiest way I have found is fill the MC with fresh fluid, use a big screwdriver of other item with a handle, that can be used to push the piston in and out. Hold your fingers tight on both MC outlets and pump the piston maybe a dozen times.

Your fingers will not be able to hold the fluid (and AIR) in, but it will allow you to pump it to bleed all the air out.

If I wasn't clear, give me a call...

Being an ex-road mechanic, I've done it this way dozens of times, and it has never NOT worked. It's a little messy, but if you don't have the bleed "kit", then this is the next easiest way.

Just make sure your fingers only allow fluid to escape DOWN towards the ground, and not up in your face, LOL. It's pretty self explanatory once you start.

Also, make sure you have clean rags to use when you carry MC from vise to car...you do not want the brake fluid on your paint.

It wouldn't hurt to bleed the wheels when you're done, but if you did the bench bleed correctly, you won't need to bleed wheels.

Thanks Bob. The MC came with the bleeding kit with the fittings, hoses, and bottle. The car has the speed bleeders, so I was going do a few pumps on each line just to be sure the lines are air free too.

Well, it's an hour later.

By now you should be bled, re-installed, bled again, and test driven...

How'd ya do?

p.s. Wish I woulda known you had the kit. It would have saved me a lot of two fingered pecking, lol...

LOL! I am going to do it tomorrow night. I will let you know how I make out. Seems fairly simple.

Might be a little late...but I bolt the darn thing in place, then hook up the little lines for bleeding it, and pump the brake pedal 30 or so times slowly. That way I don't have to deal with carrying a drippy MC over the car...I can just pull the bleed lines off and hook up the hard lines.

I used to clamp into a bench vise and use a rod to pump it...it was too much of a pita IMO.

X2 - and don't forget that dripping brake fluid will eat paint real quickly! ;)

I was wondering if anyone did it that way...seems cleanier and easier?

It is cleaner and easier, so long as the hoses don't pop off...

Use 2 small zip ties or something just to make sure those little hoses are secured to those high dollar fittings, lol.

Some have the little clip to hold hoses into the reservoir, but some don't. I'd still have someone HOLD them in place since your underhood is all pretty.

and you do not have to pump fast or hard...you're not having sex.

I did it yesterday with the MC in the car. I just had Barb hold the tubes to make sure they didn't pop out and suck in any air. She watched and let me know when the bubbles finally went away. Brakes feel better now. I just want to bleed all the lines again to make sure all the air is out and then I'll be good to go. Thanks guys!

Eric, Since you are still running the stock REAR DRUMS while stopping from 150+mph, go ahead and check the adjustment.

Mike set the adjustment when we had everything apart doing the axle swap...

I'd just go ahead and sell the damn car...Crap, if the brakes don't work, it's ready for the scrap heap anyhow....:smack:
