I already introduced myself in the newbi area, now straight to the point:-D

My project is a 408 notch NA that will see probably around 475rwhp. Now, my biggest problem is that even thought I've been in the stang world for about 15 years I've never paid any mind to automatic trannies until now. I want to know what trans would you recommend and why? I emailed Dan (SilverFox) and he talked to me about the AOD and 4R70W. To me it seems like the 4R is the way to go but I am no expert and that's why I'm here.
My best friend says to get a powerglide and be done with it. He has had experience with them and says that even thought it's not perfect for medium power engines the reliability, easy to find parts and ease of work with them is worth it. I want to let you guys tell me what do you think, you guys use them and can talk about it.

If I am in the wrong discussion board I apologize in advance. Also, thanks in advance for your help.

With the HP ratings you gave I take it that this is a street car. Do not buy a Powerglide. They are for the track only. In today's traffic on the street you need more than 2 ratios. Plus, having at LEAST 3 different ratios to get your motor in it's power band the quickest makes for a MORE enjoyable ride. If you have the money a modified AOD is an excellent trans. ;)
