just picked up a car after years of looking !!
I always Wanted a KB from when i first saw them years ago.....
goal would be 400 RWHP with boost, and a decent HCI combo...
must still be reliable , keep my AC/PS . Quieter the better....
KB or Vortech SQ2 ??
thankyou

KB....love em or hate em....
I had a KB 1500 on my old AOD'd 89 GT Convertible. Was not impressed at all. Not even a little bit. I swapped it out for an old A trim and car ran better and much stronger at ANY RPM. Then swapped to an S trim w/Snow methanol and although I had tons of headaches with the Snow kit, the car ran MUCH better than the KB ever dreamed of running. For a LOT less money out of my pocket.
The KB seems to make quick low rpm boost, then levels off to nothing...
The Vortech seems to just keep on pulling, the faster you go.
Two other things to consider...
The KB's run hotter and are also harder to tune.
Not my opinion, but the opinion of KB owners.
You can make 400hp with a budget built 5.0 and stock pullied Vortech all day long...

There used to be a stang on SSOTN that made 500 rwhp on pump gas/race gas mix with a stock cam with an S-trim thru a t-5. So it is do-able.
The combo was ..........
Edelbrock 60379 heads - no porting - box stock
Explorer upper/lower - no porting - stock
Stock cam w 1.6's
S-trim (not stock pullies)
93 octane with a splash of race gas (or you can use torco octane booster)

Wow, have the Kenne Bell blowers come along way since the days of the old 1.5L. I understand your frustration of a car that didn't perform well with it. However, the blowers they are putting out today are top of line. Nothing against Vortech, they're obvioulsy still in business for a good reason and they make great power, but I wouldn't use the 20 year old 1.5L blower to make that decision in todays market. I know you're just giving your point of view and like I said Vortech is a good centrifugal supercharger. In today's world KB's are just as easy to tune than any other supercharger out there. It's all in the tuner.
joezeta-
Is this going to be a street car, track car, dd, or maybe a combination of each?

Pretty sure we aren't talking about a Cobra or Lightning Kenne Bell blower here...even though they're the only ones worth mentioning IMHO.
Bottom line....
I have yet to see ANY 5.0 based Kenne Bell car perform like it should...past or present.
As far as the tuning issues, I have full confidence in my tuning abilities and still do some power adder Ford tuning on occassion, so don't let the present car I drive fool you. ;) I was going by what a respected SCT tuner stated about tuning his own personal KB 2200 car...another lackluster performer...
Let me guess, you either are, or were, a KB owner?

this would be for a steet car....maybe go to the track 2 times a year - maybe.
right now it has Cobra intake, 1.72 rockers, 65tb, iron gt40's .
got dyno'd today 245 rwhp through a AOD .
guy there told me to ditch the iron gt-40's if i go with a SC, will be coughing up head gaskets...something about the thickness of the head or something...
so now i need to get some beefier heads before i get a blower ??? they suggest Edelbrock alum.
Anyway still up in the air, Vortech SQ2 or KB . Would like to get 400rwhp on safe tune ...
right now i want to do the tranny first, then hopefully will decide on which blower....
Thanks again

Neither. However, I was talking about a foxbody.
I wasn't saying anything for any other reason that to give him a different persective on them. Just a matter of choice, and it looks like he decided to go with a Vortech.

I would email spence@rhodescustomauto.com. That's where I got my last Vortech from and his price and service were great.

I also purchased my unit from Spence some time ago. Another good person to deal with...I recall it coming in quick also and his prices were below summits catalog by a good amount
