Are you guys spraying off the line with your AOD's? Im installing a 150 shot and was wondering if I should spray from the drop or wait till I get into second. The tranny was rebuilt about 500 miles ago and I replaced the input the stock input shaft with one of these:

I was considering a first gear lockout to aviod any unecessary damage.

Damm... i hope you didn't pay that kind of cash for that shaft, i just paid 164.00 for the same exact part

Ouch maybe I should go up my price....

As far as leaving off the bottle you'll have to try it, I don't think second gear will be any stronger than first. 4th is the weak link.

i bought one of their input shafts and snapped it the first time i went out with my car....my STOCK one held up to 2 years of launching on nitrous and cutting 1.40 sixtys and never broke until just last month....

i went and bought TCI shaft and havent had a problem with it yet....

Are you running a window switch?

If not watch out doing that if you're spraying at WOT off the footbrake. Thats how I caught my car on fire and basically ruined everything in the front end when running a wet 90 shot. The car sputtered and fuel built up in the upper intake and that led to a nasty nitrous backfire.

I'm spraying a 175 dry shot out of the hole on street tires. I would get comfortable with that nitrous shot in 2nd and 3rd. Once you get to that point, you may try hitting the nitrous through the sixty foot.

Of course I did. My tranny was in a bunch of pieces at the trans shop and I did not have much time to price shop or research. This car is my daily driver and I knew that this shaft is the weekest point in a AOD. I figured replace it now while its apart. Summit usually has the best prices so Im shocked. Is yours a TCI? Any who.. thanks for the advice on the window switch, that really makes sense with the foot braking.

The place I get them from is where TCI and Lentech get theirs. I was under the impression nobody else actually made them but the link I saw there is obviously different.

Damn those lockup shafts are expensive!!

My TCI non-lockup was about $180 from Summit.

Alan - I still have 1 wheel peel but I have a track rental at Norwalk on Monday, i'll let you know how the 60's are doing. I found a few problems with the car so hopefully it runs top end as good as it was 60'ing last time out.

So far - 1 track outing - with your converter i've almost dropped .2 in 60's.

Freaking badass dude!

Are your direct drive hardened AOD input shafts blended or straight cut splines?

By looking at the splines they run all the way to the shaft with no groove at the end, so I would say blended. Here is a pic.

I'm spraying right outta the hole, and my car put down 1.54 60' all day long. I have a full suspension though with an airbag and et streets. My car needs a anti roll bar bad though cause it pulls hard to the left when you lauch it with the spray, almost went into the wall the first time when it hooked like crazy. oh and I'm still using a two piece shaft cause I have a lockup converter at the moment.

Hey DirtyDog, what do you think about the Redneck Performance converters that they sell on ebay? My buddy has one in his car and he loves it, but I've heard some bad things about them.

How in the heck are you spraying that much off the line with street tires? You got 600lbs of ballast over your back tires?

The converters redneck performance sells are very similar to the products I build. They are made from sonnax kits. I don't care for the "street" kits which reuse the existing GM fwd cover or any lockup setup in them because the clutch is junk. I build mine a little different from everyone else. I have the parts furnace brazed then I tig the tips of the turbine because furnace brazing alone isn't enough to keep them together. I also have spent alot of effort learning the combinations and the effects they have. One of the stators is completely removed frommy list as I have realized it is junk. Specifications are the key and even worse making sure those specifications are actually met.
Recently a friend of mine ( he is here he might chime in if he wishes) sent me a Pro-Edge converter. The most expensive unit they sell. I was just going to restall it because thats what he needed. The unit was supposed to have the upgraded stator element and be fully furnace brazed. Neither were true. It had the stock GM fwd roller clutch that had failed in 3 passes. The turbine was not furnace brazed either. I had to build the guy a complete new unit and edge would do nothing to make good on their warranty. 100% money back is a BS claim. You'd be lucky to have them return the unit. Several guys on corral learned this the hard way. I guess thats the problem with dealing with big business. They will do anything they can and rip off anyone to make a quick buck.
I don't claim to be large business and cannot afford the expense of running ads on ebay all the time. All I can do is deliver exactly what the customer pays for, instead of the quick buck method. I read this thread in the beginning and made no reply because for a c-4 valvebody thats a great deal. I pay more than that for them. When it comes to converters I don't think any of the companies can beat my prices and deliver the same product.

I don't consider et streets - "street" tires. If you think differently then drive them in the rain with 400ft/lbs or more of motor torque with a 4.56 rear! :p

I run ET streets and they suck on the street for street use put some air in them (25-28psi) and pray it doesn't rain. I prefer to swap back to real street tires for the drive home.

yeah I hate driving mine around town but I also run them with about 10 pounds or so. That's why if I'm out and there is even a sign of rain I'm heading home. Usually only drive my car out for cruizing or finding a race or two anyways.
