Mother and two children in critical condition after mobile home explosion
(Barry County, September 8, 2004, 7:29 a.m.) A mother, her one-year-old son and four-year-old daughter were inside a mobile home in Barry County when it blew up. The family had moved into the mobile home just three days ago.
Officials say the trailer park manager had a stove installed in the home, but it wasn't hooked up properly and was leaking gas. The manager told us he wanted her to stay out until it was fixed. But apparently as she was leaving, she lit a cigarette and the trailer exploded.
Neighbors dragged the family from the flames, but say the children were so badly burned they weren't sure if they were boys or girls.
We checked on the condition of the family this morning. We're told all three are still in critical condition. The one-year-old boy is the most severely burned. He has burns over 90-percent of his body.
