do you need to change any of the wires? neutral safety switch? i have my clutch pedal tied down to the floor and under the carpet. at least the clutch switch is engaged. the 5 speed had three plugs in it. speed sensor (gone) one was for backup lights? and the other? do i need to reconnect any of this?

If I remember correctly, I had to leave the harness (in the transmission tunnel area) plugged in, and just zip-tied it up out of the way....
yes there are 3 wire harness going to the trans on a 5 speed / aod, one goes to the speedo gear... then other two, one is a part of the neuatral safety circuit, the other is for reverse lights. you can do one of two things. take the wire harness off the original trans and create a loop, or take the harness and wire it into a microswtich on the shifter handle so it works correctly.
pickup some stock jumpers ( you will need two) one goes to the clutch pedal assembly, the other goes right near the gas pedal (for the cruise control)
after you do that, just take a 18mm socket, remove the nut / then the pin and the clutch pedal will come right off without removing the entire assempbly
