View Full Version : My Click Click '03 Cobra project

Just wanted to share my experiences with adding an auto to an 03 Cobra with you guys. If you are thinking about doing it, here is your warning. You will see some of the problems I ran into in this thread. A couple times I got to the point of thinking I myself, was not going to be able to complete the project. Wiring is my enemy and there is a little bit involved in this project! Anyways, here goes...
First shipment of parts back in February...

pre fitment the shifter was only about 1/4" lower than the plastic shifter cover. before cutting the shifter was about 1" too high

Shifter in place and set to the correct height...now to deal with the open space around the shifter plate.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/BBBjake/IMG_0812.jpg
Original plan was to take some sheetmetal and rivet it around the shifter to block up the holes form fumes, water, noise ect. But of course more help is always better and more idea's can come about. We ended up using dynomat which should clear all of those problems up

I'm not even going to get into the wiring...lol. Basically I ended up stripping both my T-56 harness and my new 4r70w harness and traicng all of the wires. Out of 3-4 people I had talked to about doing the wiring, EVERYONE's was setup differently! Lentech actually just recently changed the way they handled the lockup an dover drive functions so I had to do this from scratch...hopefully it works!

update...its been a while...I see my post was stickied...THANKS!!!
lots of hard work and tim einto this car. it was pulled out of the garage last month only to find some minor issue's. I think all of the kinks are worked out now as i have about 300 miles on the car.
Its a BLAST to drive!!! as long as you dont mind the 110-115 top speed, its fun as hell!! Scared a few cars this weekend as we were rolling on the street at 35-40mph (I was in 2nd) and the car is pretty tame and the sound is very calm. soon as I stab that throttle though she shoots right up to 4k and it screams!!! Hopefully she still goes at the track! Should be finding out this weekend. I will post some more pics in a day or so of the finished product.

Awesome work on that conversion...looks very nice. What rear gear are you running that your top speed is so limited? Also, don't you need the transbrake switch to engage reverse?...or was that just on the older AOD models?
Either way, good luck with the car man...I love how clean it looks underneath...lol.

just shift into reverse!

08-20-2007, 07:57 AM
Great work!
I use a MLPS on my 4R70W to activate reverse, wired the reverse leads in parallel with the transbrake, you must have a micro switch on the shifter, no?
Just curious why Lentech would use an AOD lever setup instead of a 4R70W.
I did the pedal swap on mine, it took some time to get used to not having to use the clutch pedal. LOL
And you're right, the auto is a Blast to drive with a high HP car.
I think you should contemplate the pedal swap, it would be a nice finishing touch to the job.:)

Is that the hammer shifter for 94-00 Mustangs, PN 81001? I'm deciding what shifter to use for my C4 swap and it seems it might be the easiest one to modify to fit.
BADASS03SVT
03-08-2010, 09:42 AM
yes thats the one. only a few out there that you can make fit in the stock location and do it nicely. the resr require you to move it into the console and cut it all up which Im not a fan of.
sstang
03-08-2010, 12:38 PM
Yeah I guess thats the one I'm going to order. You drilled the o/d button and put it there yourself correct? I wont have o/d with the C4 so I wont need one at all. Since mine will be a C4 I will have to buy the C4 adapter kit as well.
BADASS03SVT

no, the shifter comes with the button on the right side. you can use it for anything

Guess I will have to fine something else to use it for, already have switches for my nitrous and line lock. I've been looking around for ideas on how people used other shifters in their SN95's, but dont want it all cut up looking.

BADASS03SVT ive got a few questions for you, I just did this swap and im having problems on the electrical side, i used to the write up on modular fords because i didnt know this one existed, you said lentech changed there set up for how od and lock up is activated... how so? i noticed the other write up was way before yours and i went off the older one so im thinking maybe i wired it up the old way and the new way is different?

Depending how you ordered the trans, it should have 2-3 wires coming out of the case and Lentech should have labeled them.
Trans Brake
Lockup
Overdrive

i didnt have any wires hanging out of the case?
ahh...ok
so what they did was put them all in the factory sensor then. Youll need to find out what pins are what and use those for your wires. I believe the schematic is on the Mod Fords write up. Should be a white connector I think up towards the front
SilverFox
08-19-2011, 03:20 PM
using the factory bulk connector on the AODE/4R is how it should be done.
Depending on how it is wired, you probably just supply 12v+ to any of the 3 wires for any of the three events.
The PINS you need to supply power too...well....without them labeled, you will have to ohm out the pins and wires and fine the three you need - not hard, but messy.

Are there any other ways of lowering the stock shifter in the cobra with trans in place? I see the method used in this sticky but, have been told it is not necessay to cut the entire hump out. I have an '03 TT with a lentec that has been an extened project and this is one of the last things that needs to be worked out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im sure there are ways....you just have to come up with them. This didnt cost anything and is still setup in the car today.
