View Full Version : Do you think 9.89:1 compression is too much for a supercharged application?

I did some research and the pistons I have with 60cc AFR-165 heads come out to be 9.89:1. (TRW L2488-30flatops). I originally was leaning towards a Hellion turbo kit. Then I came across a guy with a D1-sc Procharger with the 3-core intercooler for a real good price. I don'twant to buy the kit if I'm not going to be able to run around 14# of boost. I don't want to have to run race fuel. I just want to run around on 93 octane. I know I will be fine with Nitrous, but doesn't that get to be a pian in the ass having to fill the bottle all the time?

What do you guys think I should do?

you can do it but you might to run a methanaol injsction set up...and watch your timing

I was running a vortech s-trim at 12psi with 9.7 to 1 compression on pump gas and my car had no problems. I added methanol for the extra insurance for the hotter summer weather and the car picked up big time...im a huge methanol fan.

I think with the intercooled Procharger setup you will be fine on pump. Buy the blower and try it out...if it pings on pump gas just get a methanol injection setup. If it doesnt ping get a methanol injection setup :)

Blower over a bottle any day of the week.

I know it's a different car completely but FWIW I ran my Z28 with stock pistons, untouched heads, small cam, bolt-ons, etc... 10.4:1 compression (factory) with 5-8lbs of boost. After a year of racing I finally broke the ring lands (cast) and blew 2 headgaskets.

Just ask
2muchcompression, I:-D mean, 2muchboost, I believe he was about 10:1 compression with a blower and it held together untill he really started adding boost but not quite sure.

Im sure you can do it, just make sure you get a safe tune and 93 octane will be a must.
