I have a 87 gt conv that I used to have weld wheels on. I took them off because they were acutually snapping the wheel studs off. It only seemed to happen on the back passenger side. It happened three times, so I put my turbines back on. Just so you know, I did check the lug tightness- that's everyone's first guess. And it's not the horsepower that's snapping them either, because the car was nearly stock when I had them on it. The guy that sold me the car sold me the back wheels and he said that they were ordered for a mustang. They were brand new- not pitted at all. I'm wondering If maybe they were for an older one or something, and the bolt pattern was the same then, but the wheels were different. They bolt right up, but the wheel doesn't sit on the axle hub, like the stock wheel does. It doesn't touch at all. Is the weight of the car is just riding on those 4 studs until it sheers them off? As far as I could tell, they are stock axles. One guy told me that I need Weld street instead of Weld racing draglites. Another guy told me that I need better studs , but I've known people with stock studs that have never had this problem. Another guy said that I might need a hub centric ring like alot of front wheel drives use, but they don't make them for mustangs anywhere I've seen. I also need to know what color wires go to what # pins when converting a speed desity car to mass air. I'd appreciate any help.
