1990 Mustang Coupe AOD
This is the wifes car. Car had 228K miles on it when low oil pressure scared me enough to re-ring/bearing the car. So I purchase a cheapo kit and figure as a daily driver it would be fine.
Car is rebuilt all stock spec. Bearing clearances are on loose side but still within spec.
So the question at hand is Can a 1990 Mustang Coupe 5.0 with a newly fresh STOCK 5.0 and a 100% stock AOD run 13.99s?
Well it isnt 100% stock.
Mods are:
3.73 gears
BBK CAI with the filter in the engine compartment no less LOL
3chamber Flowmasters
13* timing
That is the complete mod list. There is no custom cam changing opening/closing of valves or duration or anything.
Car weighs 3220 without driver.
Track elevation is damn near sea level. Temp around 69*
Car is run with stock suspension and on a set of cheapo 245/50/16 Doral street radials on stock Ponys.
Car ran 14.10@95 with motor less than 150miles old. Im thinking with a bit more miles and some cooler air it will do the 13.
This is 5spd territory with a AOD turd none the less. This car is a freak!

What 60ft are you getting? That will probably be the key since you are so close. Best time I've gotten with my coupe is 14.78 at 92. Still has 2.73 gears though.

Jay, my old 172,000 mile 89 Coupe with stock engine from throttle body to exhaust headers/intake to oil pan, stock aod and converter ran 13.62 @ 97. IMHO, this is STOCK since the engine itself was un-touched, as was the transmission. Stock, untouched maf meter, throttle body, intake, heads, cam, headers, etc...
Mods:
373 gears
BBK CAI
skinnies on the front
20* base ignition timing
off road H pipe
Magnaflow catback
Drag Radials (that I truly did NOT need, lol)
With just the Magnaflow catback, off road pipe, 373's and 10* timing, it went 14.1@97
What I did was kept shifter in "D" and let it shift itself from 1st to 2nd gear, then once it shifted, I pulled back shifter into "L" and upshifted into "D" when the factory tach showed 4500 rpm's...It went 13.6x at 100-101 TWELVE times in a row...LOL...

Even with the aod the car would have still been a 12.50-12.60 car Bob !!! Just thought it made a great point of how an almost stock motor can run ;)

yeah this is a stock everything except what was listed. Even on cheap as I could buy Doral tires LOL..
I just found it odd beings most stock AOD cars here run mid 15s. Guess the car isnt such a freak afterall LOL

Thanks.
Had a 91 GT AOD car that ran 15.01 best in similiar fashion. Just didnt have gears in it. They make a huge difference though.
I feel the car is fast for what it is in all seriousness.

what do you think a stock roller motor with a carb would run? 3,300 lb race weight , 3.55 gears, 5 speed.

Open year round as long as temp in 40* and above.
Normally the racing ends after Novembers Thanksgiving Shootout and just T&Ting until Feburarys Valentines Monster Motor Shootout starts the new season.

I was stuck at 14.1 for what seemed like forever with some bolt-ons and stock AOD. Removing the swaybar and using a shortbelt while shifting the AOD 1-2-1 FINALLY got me a 13.98.
