Seriously thinking of converting from a 5spd to a C4/+transbrake for my application (94 Cobra) Will I need to find a AOD center console from a donor car to convert?
Or will I need to modify the existing center console? (not sure of 5spd/auto shifter location.
I want the availability to convert back to a 5-speed should I ever want to years from now.
Thanks Guys

Bob did this conversion in the yellow car, so he should have a lot of good insight if you check with him.

I converted from five speed to AOD in my old 94. Did the job myself in the driveway with basic hand tools and four good HD jackstands. Took my time and spent the weekend so as to not forget anything.
DAY ONE:
Disconnect Negative battery cable.
Support the car up as high as it can safely be on GOOD jackstands. (you'll need the room to fit the auto bellhousing underneath the car)
Remove shifter bezel and shifter handle.
Remove the H (or X) pipe.
Remove the starter and lay it in the front crossmember area. (You can leave it hooked up as it will be used on the auto tranny)
Remove the driveshaft
Disconnect clutch cable and speedo cable
Remove transmission crossmember, transmission, bellhousing, clutch assembly, flywheel, and most importantly, the PILOT BEARING.
Move on to the auto shifter...
There is no AUTO console gator, just an auto bezel. The part that goes around the actual shifter. The stock auto shifter sits up about an inch and a half too high when bolted to the five speed transmission tunnel. I used a stock auto shifter and for it and the console to fit without a bunch of hacking and modifying, I simply bolted the shifter on from underneath using homemade spacers. The spacers let me center the shifter perfectly in the console's automatic bezel. I used heavy duty foam rubber type stuff from work to seal the gap between the auto shifter base, and the underside of the transmission tunnel. There's no worry about rain entering since once the transmission is in, it all but blocks anything other than fumes from entering anyway.
Obviously, you'd do this while the transmission is out and not in the way.
Now is when you gather up the tools, wash up and chug some ice cold beers....You'll sleep well.
DAY TWO:
Bolt the flexplate on. (I was able to re-use my flywheel bolts. They are longer, but there's plenty of threads left inside of the crank)
I always try to make sure that one of the torque converter bolt holes is directly at the bottom of the flexplate, and use it for lining up the converter to the flexplate.
Bolt the transmission in. I use nothing more than determination and a large floorjack to get it up into place. It's easiest to plumb the trans. cooler lines before the transmission is up into place. I sort of let it "hang" a little to ease access. Plumb you transmission cooler where you choose to mount it.
The transmission crossmember is the next hurdle.
The AOD's tranny mount is a few inches off from where the stock 5 speed mount would be, so the crossmember's mounting holes are way off. Some people make/mod/hack their stock crossmembers, but a very simple way around this that I discovered, is to simply flip the crossmember around. They are marked with an "L" for left/driver side, and an "R" for right/passenger side. Just turn it around so the left side of the x member is on the right side, and the stock crossmember needs zero modification....;)
Adjust TV cable (if equipped) Directions are here somewhere on the site...
You'll need an AUTO speedo gear...a very simple swap.
Re-Install starter
Re-Install H pipe
Re-Install driveshaft (you "may" need a spacer between the shaft and pinion flange)
Re-connect battery
Add some Dexron ATF, and then start car and check for obvious leaks.
Work the shifter through the gears a few times, then re-check fluid.
Add ATF as needed.
I always let it idle through the gears while it's still on stands.
Let it down off of the stands....Take the mofo for a ride....
General Info:
I also wanted to be able to swap back to a 5 speed (which I wound up doing), so I simply tucked the clutch pedal underneath of the carpet. I even zip-tied the clutch cable to the front K member, so that it was right there when I needed it, but it was out of harm's way and invisible if you didn't know it was there. Car will start in any gear unless you disconnect the clutch pedal switch wiring and wire it into a neutral safety switch...The neutral safety switch that you use will be either on the tranny itself, or the shifter...depending on whether you use stock or aftermarket shifter...
No mods to (or swapping of) the pcm are needed since the AOD (or C4) has no computer controlled functions.
If you get a manual valve body then you don't have to fab anything up for the TV cable. If you run a TV cable, you will need to either make a bracket for the cable where it has to be near the throttle body, or check into the LOKAR TV cable universal setup. I took a Fox body accelerator cable bracket, cut the TV cable part off, and then welded it to the stock 94-95 accelerator cable bracket. That way it (the TV cable) could still be adjusted like a stocker.
If you run a C4, you may well have to improvise some of this, but the general info I have shared will help you a lot IMHO. I didn't have anyone to ask, and the ones who had done it seemed to do a lot of it ass backwards, so I had to find out most of the stuff on my own...
Good Luck...
If I remember anything else, I'll edit this post.
RdRunnr or SilverFox: Feel free to copy this post and make it a sticky...
I'll be doing a 4 speed to automatic conversion on my Corvette in the coming months, so if you ever want to do that swap...I'll be able to help soon. ;)

DAMN! now THAT is a writeup ("Sticky" material imho)! Thanks Bob:-D it is much apprieciated. I will let you know how things go when I decide to tear into this thing :-D.
P.s. curious what made you convert back to 5 speed?
Thanks! G.

I bought the AOD back from MattG. It was originally in my old "BarneyCar" and worked great. So great that it snapped a front u-joint at 65mph (when I locked it into OD) and in the aftermath the driveshaft wound up breaking the transmission case and beating the shit out of the transmission tunnel and MAC h-pipe...lol.
FWIW, on drag radials the car went:
12.96@106 (1.90 60 foot) with the AOD. (No PMS)
12.88@107 (1.90 60 foot) with the 5 speed (and a good bit of PMS tuning)
Sadly, I never got to spray the car with the AOD in it, but with the 5 speed got a 11.92@116 with a 100hp Dry shot...
