Remember my low miles neon that I picked up from my in-laws to use a commuter? It jsut let me down.....cost me $160 to get it towed home. It broke 40 miles away from the house
I was in the right lane, gave it some gas, the car downshifted, and then it kinda popped, and started making a funny noise and lost lotsa power (not that it had any to begin with...but you know were i am going with this)
Anyway, open the hood, and one of the sparkplugs was shot out of the motor

Something tells me I am not going to get away with just buying a new plug and threading it back in
Any idea what could have caused the plug to exit the head? I checked the threads and they don't look like they are stripped, is it possible that it might have just rattled loose or something?

well i would give it try, just try threading a new plug in and see what happens. it it doesnt work then look at your other options. is that the plug still on the end of the wire?

I had that happen to me in my wife's old chevy cavalier one time. Somehow it just rattled loose. I put it back in and tightened it up and everything was fine.

damn that's a bitch of a tow price if that's all that's wrong but it's also a good thing if that's all that's wrong
i don't really see how it could be anything other than the plug vibrating loose... are u sure that they were tight?

Car had a new tune up (like 10 miles new) before I was given it with 23k miles. It now has 33k miles 2.5 months later....I suppose it could have rattled loose...I do cruise it at 80-85 it MPH everyday with the occasionally prolong 95-100 juant...I don't feel much in the way of vibration in the car (not like my 65 anyway ;) )...but I imagine it could get a little vibrant in the motor.

I have seen plugs come loose several times on other people's cars. Its usually from not being installed tight enough.

Well was just out cursing at the car....looks like who ever installed the last set of plugs put this one in cross threaded...the top 2 threads on the plug were buggered and pinched together.....I tried another plug in the hole and it just drops right in...no threads at all left in the hole :(
Gonna pick up a helicoil do-hicky manana and see if I can just screw it in there and plop a plug in on top......then hopefully I will get a job in Wilmington and I can trade this thing in on a:
WRX
350z
05 GT
04 Mistichrome
BTW - I had a butt load of fun driving to work today in the 65 :)
Had one moron ricer pass me in a fly by......that lasted about 1.5 seconds till I caught up to him....then I proceeded to embarrass him by throttle up and back between 3500 and 4000 in OD....he must have been redlined cause his car wouldn't go anyfaster when I zipped right on by :)
Had a little bit more of a challenge on the way home...Monte Carlo SS (late model) with the pace car crap all over it....blew by me quite fast.....pulled up next to him at about 4k in OD and passed him.....he pulled up next to me with me at 3500......and I dropped it into third ;)
Just for the record I don't beleive in street racing....but when someone passes you minding your own business thinking they have a fast car....I sometimes feel the need to explain reality to them....that my old pos pony car is quite peppy.
The good news for the day is....I feel the tranny is ready for primetime.
Done quite a few 0 RPM hard launches all the way through 3rd.....turned a few passengers interesting colors too ;) and now I have had it up to 6k in OD in short burst (4500 in OD prolonged) and nothing ill to report.
Now we just need the guys over at the shop to tell me they are ready to put my bar in ;)

lol...you do know I paid $0.00 and it was given to my by my Mother-in-law because of how happy she is that I am almost done a master's degree and didn't want me to have to buy anything just to drive up to HArrisburg and work right :D
They are actually pissed off about what happened and have tried to force money on us to pay for the towing and projected costs to fix...that is not something I can let them do. I've put over 10k miles on this thing since it became mine...so these problems are now all mine IMO.

No, I didn't realize that. I thought you had bought it from a used car lot since you were looking at a few different cars at the time :)

I've used the heli-coil kits before here at work. We had a used car come in with a blown out spark plug. Worked quite well. Just take your time installing it.
