I have a combo very similar to eric's old combo and im trying to figure out what my total timing should be.A professional shop set it up with 24 degrees with the spout out and the btm at 1.I run 13 lbs. of boost on pump gas with 8.9.1 compression and this would only give me 11 degrees total.Doesnt this seem way low? From what ive been reading its been recommended to det the initial at 30 and test and adjust the btm with a compressed air source similating boost and set the total between 18-20 degrees.I dont want to take the car to a dyno because there is no one in the area.My fuel system is a A100o pump 1/2 line Aeromotive regulator 1/2 fuel rails and 42 lb. injectors. Please i need help with this.

that total IS way low, you should be along the lines of 18-20 tops with pump gas, you can get away with a few more degrees but when driving on the street it gets a little touchy when the motor gets heat soaked. I myself dont trust BTM's but if you must use one, then yes set it to 30(spout out)and pull the timing back to 18-20.

I personally don't believe in the spout out method and like BTM's. I usually set base timing to 14-16 and then use an air source and leakdown to simulate boost and set the total timing where I want it which is around 18 total with pump gas and 22-26 on race gas.

I wanted to thank everybody for the advice iset my timing to 18 degrees total and i couldnt believe the difference.Unfortunately i stripped the teeth off my cog belt i guess i didnt have it tight enough but the performance difference is huge.
