Ok, here's the deal fellas.
My buddy just built a 306 with 10.5 to 1 comp, x cam, edelbrock performer heads, GT40 upper and lower, 24lb injectors, 65mm throttle body, long tubes, h-pipe, 3.73's, and it's a 5 speed car. It dosn't run anything like it should, he ran it lastnight to get a blistering 13.6@103... The car ran 13.20's with the stock 302. He needs to get it tuned, but what does he need? Fuel pressure regulator, does he need a computer? I'm not sure about any of this. I know he has the timing set at 14 degrees, but he has no clue what kind of fuel pressure he's running. Can you guys give some suggestions on what he should do next? Or is something in his combo not right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Couild be alot of things really......does the engine "run good"..meaning is it firing on all 8 and sound decent?

i had a similier combo that went 108 mph...with old 351 heads...something is definalty "off"

All 8 cylinders are firing, it runs good. It's just slow, it also backfires a little through the exhaust when it's cold :?:

Gav, I recommend he (its BJ right?) get to a dyno or get a wide band O2 and check the A/F, could be running rich OR lean. I also have seen that most Edelbrock headed combos need a bit more timing. this car is to say the least a serious under achiever :(

Yea, it's BJ. How much is a wideband? I've been telling him to get it tuned, but he's a little busy at the moment. He's getting married in October :? I guess we'll have to wait and see....

103mph is way off for what that car should get. My car with almost the same combo got 108mph on the first pass out. I changed my intake and it picked up to 110mph...tuning got me up to 112mph. Something is not right with that car. A 5 speed notchback with a heads, intake, and cam setup should go 110mph with ease.

You need to at least get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a good quality fuel pressure guage. You might not be getting enough fuel pressure. Then get it on a dyno.

first.....make sure the distributer is correct....get compression on #1 and pop the cap and make sure its in right.....im betting thats the problem.

14 prolly isnt enough for that set-up...i remember running like 36 total in mine to get the most mph.
