Changing from EFI to carb, engine is 347 stroker.Has st0ck 5.0 dist. in now with spout. Brands preferred and part numbers please, also what other options are being used.

Look here for a budget alternative, you can use your stock TFI distributor on a carbed application, The thread here is for a blow-through setup, but will also work for a NA setup also.

I have a 5.8L TFI on my bench. I have been researching how to use it without the ECU. 1. Ground, 2. coil (-) terminal, 3. power 12volts switched, 4. STRT, 5. spout/pin 36, 6. PIP/pin 24.
I am thinking that the spout and the PIP are advance signals from the ECU influenced by the engine sensors. Which sensors are most pertinent to spark-advance?

Cheap way - find a duraspark 2 dist and a duraspark blue box, mr gasket 925D spring kit, 13L weights DONE.
More Money - MSD dist + Box

My TFI distrubutor has a vacume advance provision.

yes, the ford dizzys have that...not clue how to use it.

BUT this might mean good things...let us know.

My reasoning is that the TFI module is the like the points-breakers or in our case the brakerless-ignition. Wheres the advance? A) Its in the EEC-IV. Last night I stumbled upon what I am 90% sure to be vacume-advance provision. Even if I did successfully put a vacume advance on there, where would I get my centrifical advance curve? Maybe I could have a fused-like between PIP and SPOUT. I say this because PIP provides camshaft rotation and SPOUT makes the TFI advance.

Any idea what sort of rod I need to weld this?

Vac advance is not required on a race engine - it is installed on cars from the factory to increase fuel mileage,
All engines do not produce much vac if ANY at WOT throttle rendering the vac advance useless...
Mechanical advance is everything in race engines - full advance by 2800 - 3200 rpm depending
on the engine itself - N/A engines - boosted engines will probably require a different curve

I am not sure what I accomplished or why I did it but here it is. I mig-welded it. Then I hooked up the vacume-advance canister to manafold vacume and it pulled on the stator assembly rotating it. Can PIP and SPOUT be connected?

Oh, and yes I did take the TFI module off before welding.

Good luck with this project, but without the EEC -4 computer it is useless
Also the EEC only allowed 26 degrees of timing

Would a TFI advance normally on a carburated engine if it had the EEC-IV computer was hooked up? Would I need sensors hooked up and if so which ones? Can the computer be reporgramed for more than 26-degrees?

The main sensors for ADVANCE - RPM - AIRFLOW - ENGINE TEMP - THROTTLE POSITION. The problem that without all the sensors
will cause the CHECK ENGINE light to come on, when this happens timing advance will be held back
(LIMP IN MODE). THE EEC CAN BE REPROGRAMMED FOR MORE ADVANCE, OR YOU INCREASE BASE TIMING
I RAN 16 DEGREES BASE TIMING ON MY 347 WHICH EQUALLED 32 TOTAL ADVANCE.

Ok, so about the sensors; would "RPM" be the stator in the distributor? Airflow would of course be MAF. Engine temperature would be the coolant temperature in the intake-manafold. Throtel position would be the throtel position sensor. This seems reasonable enough but I never liked the MAF-sensor. Suppose I use a speed-density computer, could it be re-programmed for more advance? Computers are pretty cheap at the junkyards if you get a good one.

Without ALL the engine sensors & injectors the CHECK ENGINE light will come on limiting
timing advance - YES RPM is in the Distributor

What can I expect from running the disturbutor locked out at 38-degrees advance?

Locked at 38 will cause hard starting possible kick back - running expect the engine
to detonate (ping) under 2500- 3000 rpm - Dura-spark 2 system way less headaches
and dirt cheap at the junk yard. I have a Duraspark 2 Distributor with 6AL MSD
